WOYWW 128-Sugar & Spice and All Things Nice

Morning Folks. I hope I find you well this Wednesday. I know we all say it but WOYWW comes around every other day, or so it feels.

So, what's on my desk today? It changes on a daily basis at the minute. I'm in full Christmas flow and today am making some sugarpaste characters to sell at the school Christmas Fayre along with lots of cards and some fabric hearts for which I have to thank my WOYWW friend Lunch Lady Jan for the inspiration.


I've discovered that the kids like things they can buy with their pocket money and it's the parents that buy the cards. The lovely children are my best customers so I have to think what appeals to them. It's a steep learning curve doing Fayres, but I'm getting there.

My DD loved these characters after we saw Ann Pickard making them on Create and Craft and the instructions are so clear in her book that they are a pleasure to make.

I've got choir boys and Eskimos to have a go at now so excuse the quick post. I need to get finished so that I can have a good nosey round everyone else's desks.

WOYWW and a few cakes

Happy WOYWW. Here we are again at midweek. It'll be the weekend again before we know it. Where do the weeks go?


Here's my workspace this Wednesday still with lots of Christmas cards on the go. I've spent the day Slicing snowflakes!!!! and staring out of the window while the machine was doing its stuff watching the weather changing down the valley. One minute gorgeous sunshine, the next rain.


I also thought I'd share the view I have out of the window and the reason why today has been a very frustrating Wednesday. Yesterday two lovely Gas men arrived to dig this hole at the bottom of our drive to repair a gas leak. They had to turn our gas supply off but promised at 4pm yesterday afternoon it would be back on within 4 hours!!!!! At 4pm today I was making my 3rd phone call to see where the engineer was and when the gas would be back on. Having no hot water for 24 hours is not funny!! Happily he arrived at 5pm and we are now fighting for the shower and have had a lovely cooked dinner. No spinny dinner tonight.

Lots of lovely WOYWW's have asked for some piccies of my cakes so here are a few. They are all Wedding cakes apart from the large flower which was DD's 7th birthday cake.

Anyone For Cake

Well, I'm still here and still standing up, thank goodness. It looks like the lurgy has passed me by, keeping everything crossed and touching wood!!!!!

Thank you all so much for your kind wishes. Everyone is recuperating slowly although Freya gave us a real scare, so much so that after the Emergency Doctor said they were too busy to come out to her on Saturday we had to put her, barely conscious into the car, in her night clothes and drive over to the hospital (thankfully it is only 2 streets away) but we then had to sit in a waiting room to see the Emergency Doctor. Luckily, she said that it was just a nasty viral infection which caused blackouts.

It does make me wonder what you have to do to get a home visit by a doctor these days. In 9 years I have taken Freya to see the nurse for an ear infection when she was a baby and to the doctor once because the school asked me to, to confirm she had German Measles, so we are definitely not panicky parents.

At least when my Hubby went down with it on Sunday night I was prepared for what was going to happen.

Anyway, enough doom and gloom. I do have some craft to share with you.


It was Freya's 9th Birthday last Friday, although she didn't get to enjoy it properly and this is the cake I made for her. We still have loads left as there is only me eating it. I think I shall have to make her another in a week or so to make up for it! Anyway, she had asked for Butterflies, these, along with fairies being her favourite things. In our house, butterflies are fairies in disguise!!


I used one of my new Lili Of The Valley stamps to make her card. These are my new favourites at the minute although I am still trying to get to grips with the colouring. This one was coloured with promarkers. I used my Nesties and dotty cuttlebug folder, along with a MS edge punch, another of my new favourite things!! The base card was from Kanban.

You will be seeing a lot more of these stamps over the next few weeks as I have been using them for every card I've needed to make. I just LOVE them.

Roses For Romance

For all you cake lovers out there, I think I'm safe to post the photos of the two cakes I decorated last week.


The first one was a wedding cake for my friend's hairdresser. She wanted it to be kept simple with just a spray of pink roses on the top to match her hand tied rose bouquet. The cakes were all fruit which my lovely Mum in law makes. Her cakes are delicious and always lovely and boozy. No one in the family can match her, as hard as we try.


The second cake was for the first Wedding Anniversary of my hairdresser, who is a regular cake buyer. She likes a plain sponge with jam and buttercream which I can make successfully. Luckily she was happy to have the same roses. I just added some rose leaves to make the spray a bit different.

We had plenty of buttercream and icing left over so Freya made fairy cakes on Sunday and had a lovely time decorating them so we got a bit of cake too!!!
