WOYWW 280-A Change of Direction

Morning folks and dear WOYWW friends. I haven't shared in this lovely desk hop for months and boy have I missed it. I work on a Wednesday and although it's meant to be part time I'm usually there for a lot longer so I don't have time to visit all the desks I'd like too so don't feel it's fair to join in. This week my days have been changed so I have Wednesday at home...hurray...some desk hopping at last!!!!!

Here's my desk as of last night.


Bet that fooled you didn't it!!!! Not a bit of paper in sight. Nope. I'm wet felting!!!!!

I've started a new night school class and wanted to have a go at something completely different so am doing Creative Textiles and this week we have been wet felting which is great fun and a great work out. The idea is to then add all sorts of embroidery and beads to the felt over the next few weeks, so you may well see this develop.    Oh and if you wondered there is a very thick towel under the bamboo roll, I'm not soaking the table cloth!!!

Well, that's me today so now I need to come and see what you've all been up too.

    How interesting that course sees to be. I don't think there is anything like that around me or I would be there. It looks gorgeous, great colours.
    Yes, it was lovely to meet up, it's always nice to see a person you have met in blogland isn't it.

    Lovely looking piece of felt - it's hard work getting it felted isn't it, but worth it in the end! Looking forward to seeing the fully embellished piece when it's finished.

    lisa, great to have you back, have fun with your course, I did one several years back and it was fabulous, so I'm sure you will enjoy it. You've certainly made a smashing start with that bit of felting, super colours and decoration.

    what a spooky coincidence I have just finished (about an hour ago ) making a piece of wet felt ready for a workshop I am teaching on Saturday (bit of a reminder as I haven't done any for a while).... its great fun and like you say a bit of a workout. Yours is looking good, its a brilliant medium especially as it is so easy to embellish in so many ways..... enjoy and I'll have to pop back and see how it is progressing

    Lisca recommended I hop over and see you, Lisa, because I'm also doing felt evening classes! I love what you've done. Hope to see more. My course is only 5 weeks long (last one next week) but I've signed up for another 5 weeks in February, when we will be working with fibres and textiles. We did needle felting last night and it was soooo much fun! I can't decide which I prefer, wet felting or needle felting. Both are like pure magic, watching the soft fluffy wool fibres transform into a firm fabric. Nuno felting next week! This is soooo much fun.

    Thanks for your return visit Lisa - that sounds great! It sounds as if we are more or less neck-and-neck. My course is only 5 weeks long, but the second (separate) module in February (also 5 weeks) will deal with more advanced techniques, such as the introduction of different fibres. Do you have any particular plans for what you want to do with felt? I am keen to work on 3-D projects (vessels, cat caves, slippers etc.) and working with resist to create separate layers which you expose by cutting back. This stuff is totally amazing - you can make whatever you want with it, and it's so sculptural! I shall be very interested to compare notes and see how you are getting on.

    Glad you saw Shoshi & Janet were working on something similar!
    And I work too and only ever have the time to visit desks on either Fri or Sat, so don't feel you have to visit on Weds!
